Winter Field Day – January 26 – 27

YCARS will be participating in Winter Field Day. The event will run Saturday, January 26, at 2pm through Sunday, January 27, at 2pm.

The purpose of Winter Field Day is to foster Ham camaraderie, field operation, emergency operating preparedness, and just plain on the air, indoor and outdoor fun in the midst of winter for American, Canadian and DX Amateurs. Don’t let those winter doldrums keep you locked up in the house… get out and play some radio!!

We will run three operating stations from the YCARS clubhouse. We will have a dedicated SSB station, a dedicated CW station, and a third station which will be used for a mix of phone and digital modes.

YCARS won our class in SC during Summer Field Day 2018. We are optimistic that we can perform exceptionally well in Winter Field Day this year!

John Gendron, NJ4Z, is coordinating SSB operations. Darcy Pach, K4DQP is leading digital operations. Andy Kunik, AE8J, is coordinating CW operations. If you would like to participate, please reach out to one of them for timeslots that we are in need of filling.

Come by and say hi and support the operators and/or operate or log! We’d love to see as many club members as possible participate.

The clubhouse will be open to the public during this event for anyone who would like to stop by, learn about the club, meet YCARS members, and learn more about ham radio.

It’s Christmas Party time!

Join us at the clubhouse on Thursday, December 13, at 6pm for the YCARS annual Christmas Party!

Please bring a side dish or dessert. Email Brent Case with what you are bringing so he can ensure we have a good distribution of sides. Also, please bring any serving utensils which are needed.

If you would like to participate in our white elephant gift exchange, please bring a wrapped gift valued around $10.

Please sure to wear your “UGLIEST” Christmas Sweater.

Clubhouse Cleaning!

It’s time again to give the clubhouse a little TLC.  Let’s get the clubhouse looking nice for the Christmas party which is on December 13!

We will be holding a cleaning party on Thursday, December 6, at 6pm.

  • Clubhouse Cleaning
The meeting room needs a good cleaning and dusting.  Tables cleaned off.  Tables and chairs wiped down.  Dusting of shelves and equipment.  Removal of cobwebs.
  • General shack clean-up, organization, and maintenance
The shack needs a little love. We need to lay the stations out to be comfortable operating positions with effective cable management. All equipment needs to be wiped down and cleaned.
  • Hamfest cleanup
We’ve got a lot of stuff that was brought back from the hamfest that needs to be gone though, organized, and put away or set aside for sale.

We need as many club members as possible to come out and lend a hand!

Operating / Fun Night!

Don’t forget, this Thursday, November 1, is our monthly operating night / fun night.

Come by and socialize.  Get on the air.  Make some contacts.  Learn how to use the club’s equipment or bring your own.

This is a great time to get your HT programmed, ask questions to other hams, get advice, suggestions, and tips…

Also, need coax jumpers?  Bring some PL259 or N connectors and we’ll help you make some cables.  (limited amount of LMR400 and RG-8x available).

This is the most fun and social monthly gathering at the clubhouse.  Come on out!

York County ARES Net
