JOTA 2019

Calling all Scouts!!

YCARS will be opening its doors to Scouts of all ages for Jamboree On The Air on Saturday, October 19, from 10am until 4pm.

All Scouts are welcome! Come learn about Amateur Radio and get on the air. This will be a fun opportunity to talk to other Scouts across the country and the world!

Join YCARS on EchoLink

YCARS now has an EchoLink node running in the club shack. It is connected to a node radio which is set to the K4YTZ repeater in Rock Hill, SC.

So, if you’re out and about travelling and don’t have a radio with you or you are out of range of the K4YTZ repeater, you can still keep in touch with your YCARS friends back at home!

You’re welcome to connect to K4YTZ-L, node 376892.

YCARS nets moved to KD4EOD during state of emergency

SC is under a state of emergency and the SCHEART repeater network is linked state-wide.  K4YTZ, WR4SC and the York County DMR (all SCHeart Repeaters) will all be in Emergency Mode starting Tuesday Sept 3rd, 2019 at 08:00. Please use other repeaters in the county.

While SCHEART is operating under emergency mode, the YCARS evening and morning nets will be held on KD4EOD, 147.225 + PL 110.9.

Please keep personal communications on the K4YTZ repeater brief.

Calling Net Control Operators!

Interested in helping the York County Amateur Radio Society by being a net control operator for the YCARS 2m Evening Net? If so, please step up and volunteer!

We are in need of additional net control operators who can commit to calling the net once per week.

If you have never been a net control operator before, we are absolutely willing to help you get comfortable performing the role! Please contact K4BSC if you are interested.

York County ARES – Coverage Test Exercise

York County ARES will host an exercise on Saturday August 10th.  We are planning 8 am to 11 am for operations.

The Goal of this exercise it to test repeater and simplex coverage county wide. we hope to be complete in under three hours.

The plan is to have mobile units cover the areas driving to the fire station listed in the areas below, call into net control on the K4YTZ repeater when you arrive at the location.

Net Control will be at the EOC in Downtown Rock Hill. Once you arrive at the fire station and establish contact with Net Control, you will be directed to contact net control on the other repeaters and try a simplex transmission.

The repeaters in use for this exercise will be

K4YTZ – 147.030 (-) 88.5
KD4EOD – 147.225 (+) 110.9
WR4SC – 441.525 (+) 162.6
W4PSC – 443.375 (+) 110.9
KC4KPJ – 443.725 (+) 127.3
W4BFB – 145.230 (1) 118.8 (Charlotte Regional Skywarn repeater
Simplex 146.580

We are looking for at least 5 volunteers to the areas list below.  If we have more that 5 people to cover the areas we will break them up into smaller areas.  If you do not have a mobile unit or unable to be one of the rovers, if you can relay simplex back to the net control station from your QTH. It would be appreciated, just let us know if you are willing to be a home relay station.  It will be a fast exchange on each repeater, just the location and signal report and move down the list to the next repeater.  If you have a dual band radio leave VFO A on K4TYZ and use VFO B to test the other repeaters.  That way we can communication on K4YTZ if we do not have comms on the other repeaters.  If you key up and do are not able to get into the repeater, try the next on the list to see if you can get in and then text your location and what repeater you are able to hit to Net Control and We will switch there to continue the test.  I do not believe all the repeaters will have county wide coverage, but we will know after this exercise.

What awards can I win?
How do I go about finding parks to contact?
How do I operate from a park and ensure I have a successful activation?

Steve, W3SPC, will be answering all of those questions and more. 7:30pm at the YCARS clubhouse!
